HAVERHILL ROVERS
5-3
HUNDON

The inaugural Keith Willis Memorial Cup match proved to entertaining indeed, Haverhill emerging triumphant after an eight goal thriller.

Some fast play from Hundon gave them the lead after 6 minutes, Jack Storey netting from close range as he gave goalkeeper Ed Campbell no chance of making a save.

The hosts equalised three minutes later when Marc Abbott's free kick on the left wing was floated in over every player in the penalty area and went past motionless goalkeeper Matt Morrison and into the far right corner.

Abbott then turned provider for Haverhill to take the lead after 12 minutes, his corner on the left being whipped in low and Craig Cutts getting ahead of his marker to net off the inside of the near left upright.

The hosts doubled their lead from another assist by Abbott on the half hour, his ball putting in captain Joe Harvey, who got ahead of Morrison on the edge of the penalty area, took it past him and netted.

Haverhill's fourth was Cutts' second after 56 minutes, a Hundon clearance cannoning off one of their own players and Cutts managed to slip the ball into the net.

The fifth home goal, and contender for goal of the night, was scored by Brad Deeks when his 25 yard effort in the 71st minute wrong footed Morrison as it found the bottom left corner.

Hundon mounted a late comeback, though, Storey scoring with a nicely taken 15 yard volley that beat Campbell at his near post after 78 minutes; Storey completed his hat trick in the 89th minute after he just scored past Campbell's outstretched hand from the penalty spot after Gareth Thomas was adjudged to have handled in the area.
